John A. Haskin received his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology with a sub-specialization in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from The Union Institute. This combination has uniquely prepared him to conduct employment-related psychological evaluations and to assist management in training and improving workign relationships and communities within organizations. University Microfilms published his dissertation, A Suicide Screening Instrument, for Use in Jails and Lock-ups. Dr. Haskin is a member of the American and Michigan Associations of Suicidology. His assement instrument, designed to identify suicidal individuals so proper care and assistance can be offered, has been adopted by a number of law enforcement agencies.
A member of the American Psychological Association, Dr. Haskin has been a consultant and trainer for business industry and for law enforcement agencies since 1977. As a State Certified Law Enforcement Instructor he is a frequent presenter in police academies and training centers.
Dr. Haskin was appointed as a Board Certified Expert & Diplomate of the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress. His practice includes numerous trauma victims. He is a founding member of and frequent trainer for The Michigan Crisis Response Association, and of the Critical Incident Response Team of Northwest Michigan. Both groups assist traumatized emergency service workers by providing critical incident stress debriefings. He is also a member of the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation
Before beginning his career in mental health, Dr. Haskin worked for eleven years in education, teaching at the pre-school, elementary, and high school levels. As a result he maintains high interest in working with troubled children and youth and their families. In addition to providing direct treatment Dr. Haskin works with attorneys and courts to evaluate parents, families, and children who are the subject of child custody disputes. A member of the American College of Forensic Examiners, he was appointed Fellow of the College, in recognition of the highest level of excellence in the field.
